Biography

1922 Born October 3 in Noordwijkerhout, The Netherlands

1942 First drawings and sculptures. Working in Rotterdam, Antwerp, and Maastricht.

1945 First exhibition in gallery Van Zanten, Rotterdam. Joins “Venster” group in Rotterdam.

1954 – 1955 Stays in Paris. Contact with Alechinsky and Tajiri; active in Stanley Hayters’ workshop.

1955 “Nationale 5 mei Grafiekprijs.” Joins the “Liga Nieuw Beelden” in Amsterdam.

1957 “Prix Susse” in Paris.

1958 – 1959 Stays in Milan with Pierro Manzoni.

1963 – 1964 Stays in New York.

1965 – 1975 Steel sculptures in color, neon sculptures, and installations.

1970 – 1983 Teaches at the Rotterdam Academy of Arts.

1973 – 1983 Guest professor at University of Victoria and Elizabeth Carr College, Vancouver, Canada.
